OUR MISSION

DiaKCritical is an online journal that is focused on the criticism and empowerment of the local arts culture of Kansas City with a focus on music. DiaKCritical seeks to approach the discussion around art and music in Kansas City from a wider variety of perspectives and lenses through diversity of content and active engagement with the community.

We believe that the dialogue surrounding art and artists should not simply be relegated to quality, nor should it defer without reason and research to the excellence or mediocrity of a work of art. We will support contemporary art and artists, provide thoughtful, sharp critique, and examine the past in order to place ourselves and our city in the context of a broader artistic, economic, social, and political scope.

We must recognize that non-indigenous people are occupying stolen land. DKC formally recognizes and respects Indigenous People as the original stewards of this land and the enduring relationship that exists between Indigenous Peoples and their traditional territories.
